Well as you can probably tell today was a bad day, to say the least.  We were part of a big group that headed for the first turn to the west, which wasn't a bad run.  We decided to turn early in the first sector which had a 20km radius.  The high cloud associated with the front was already overhead, and as we headed off for the second turn, it started to die.  Andrew (koala 1) ended up landed at an airstrip at Forssa, whilst I scratched away for about 30min or so!  I went a long way south of track as new cu was starting to develop there again, which ended up in hindsight not being the best idea.  Conditions became pretty good again when I was within about 50km of the second turn, which was about 60km NE of Rayskala.  At this stage I'd almost been on task for nearly 2 hrs and the task was  2hr AAT.  I decided to go further into the second leg to see that if I could increase my avg speed as conditions were fairly good at that stage.  I turned about 15km or so in the second sector and started to head for the control point which was about 10km from Rayskala.  Conditions were good till I was 45km from the control point.  The was a hole which was caused by the high cloud thickening again.  Once again I found myself low and taking anything to stay airborne.  Conditions improved when I was within 20km of Rayskala.  My H'speed was a whopping 49km/h!  Oh well have to do better next time!

Congratulations Nathan - 3rd overall! Congrats also to the organisers and especially the web site organiser(s) - the web site was very informative and kept very up-to-date - almost felt like we were there watching the action live. Good job to Andrew, Mike and Julie too. Submitted By: Grant J

This is exciting stuff - edge of the seat & dangerous after a bottle of red with good friends! We're watching the times come in with no more than 10 minutres delay. Good stuiff from the comp organisers. Doing some back of the hand calcs and it's looking OK for Nathan at this stage! Go Andrew / Nathan !!!! Submitted By: Grant J

Hey guys, great effort over there - keep it up no matter what the weather brings. It's inspiring for us, too, at Rieti, to see you doing well. We've got 3 days left of practice before our comp starts, so keep giving us inspiration! Submitted By: Allan Barnes

Nathan and Andrew - Looks like a lot of superscratch weather there, you are really doing great in trying conditions. Hope you get a boomer to show everyone what Aussies can really do! I'm enjoying the pictures and the blogs. Keep looking and keep it safe. Submitted By: John Welsh
